The Orchard still needs us.
This year, unseasonably warm weather brought our apple trees into bloom nearly a month early. Then, a deep freeze damaged much of that bloom before the fruit had a chance to develop.
More than 2,000 apple trees still need to be cared for, and the land they grow on still needs to be maintained and stewarded. The work of planting, pruning, protecting, and preparing for future harvests doesn’t stop just because this year’s apples won’t be there.
And we’re still recovering from Hurricane Helene, which took hundreds of mature trees from the Orchard in 2024. Our crew is planting new trees and caring for the Orchard as it grows back, but those young trees will need several years before they can bear fruit.
