2 PM – 4 PM

Orchard at Altapass (directions)

Admission: FREE

Ron and Minnie Powell have been playing and singing in this area for more than 30 years, both as a duo and with various bands over the years, including Lucky Streak, which was formed after Ron’s near death experience from a heart attack in 2005. Ron’s musical experience covers genres from bluegrass to blues, folk, country and original material.

Minnie, a Yancey County native who moved away as a child an came back just as soon as she could, grew up listening to country legends such as Patsy Cline and Johnny Horton, and has been influenced by more contemporary artists such as Alison Krauss, Nanci Griffith, Tracy Chapman, and Emmylou Harris. She continues to
listen to and incorporate new and old songs into her repertoire.

Tim Clark, the most recent member of Lucky Streak, is an accomplished composer and top shelf bass player. He has made Yancey County his forever home for more than twenty years. His contribution to the trio rounds out the sound and adds an interesting bass line to every selection.

The Lucky Streak Band, with Ron’s finger-style picking, Minnie’s rhythm guitar, percussion, and mandolin, and Tim on bass, promises to provide a solid performance both vocally and musically, with a little something for everyone.

About the Orchard Music Program

The Orchard Music Program offers live, traditional music in support of our nonprofit mission to preserve the history, heritage and culture of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Our hope is to educate the public about the Appalachian experience so that these important traditions may be carried forward with future generations.
