Book Signing: Hugh Willard

June 22 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm

Free

Hugh J. Willard is a psychotherapist, singer-songwriter, and author with a career spanning more than thirty-five years. He has developed and taught courses on exploring identity, meaning, and creativity in the second half of life for numerous Osher Lifelong Learning Institutes, including those at the Universities of Duke, Georgia, North Carolina State, and UNCAsheville.  Finding Beauty in the Gray: Stories and Verse From the Third Age is Hugh’s first nonfiction book. His other published works include a children’s chapter book series, The Goodwill Vulture’s Club,  Degotoga, and Clive’s Crossing, a novella. Also, he hosts a podcast titled “Aging Well: Finding Beauty in the Gray” that explores the themes of identity, meaning, and creativity in the second half of life.

For Finding Beauty in the Gray, an essay collection, he travels through family rooms and orchard fields, backyards and boardwalks of those in or approaching retirement—their anticipations and trepidations, questions and concerns all gathered from common places along his way. He records their and his thoughts in often lively, sometime gritty essays; their words reaching deep into their individual, yet analogous experiences. Complementing themes are some of Willard’s poems—verses of love, loss, legacy, play, with beauty, always finding a presence among the words.

During the book signing, he will read from his book the musings of the Orchard’s Bill Carson.
